5 Questions for Virginie Otth

NYPH: Describe your photographic approach.
Virginie Otth: Structuralist, I guess. Not unique. I’m part of a long list of artists who worked on the medium itself, experienced the limits of it, especially in the ’70s.

What do you like to photograph? Do you find yourself returning to the same subjects?
For my recent work, I avoid subjects. I’m using THE subjects of the history of representation (stills, landscapes, portraits).

Is there any one thing that always catches your eye?
Cameras, telescopes, microscopes.

What do you hope to achieve with your images?
Give an aesthetic way to consider technology, propose a question about the medium.

Why are Festivals, like the New York Photo Festival, important venues for photographers to exhibit their work?
Since Obama, AMERICA, the new dream…More seriously, a beautiful concentration of people which may be interested in the same things as me/you.
