  • When is the deadline for submissions to the New York Photo Awards?

All entries must be received before May 1, 2010

 

 

 

  • Is it possible to get an extension?

Any extensions of the submission period will be announced on the NYPHA website as we draw closer to the official deadline. For more information, you can contact us at awards@nyphotofestival.com.

 

 

 

  • Who is eligible to submit to the New York Photo Awards?

The New York Photo Awards are open to all person over the age of 18.

 

 

 

  •  What work is eligible?

Eligible work must have been produced or published between January 1, 2009 and April 30, 2010. Work must fit into at least one of the New York Photo Awards categories.

 

 

 

  • What are the Categories?

 

General Categories

 

1. Editorial – Single. 

Individual images on any topic for magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals, and all assigned projects.

 

2. Editorial – Series. 

A series of 2 to 15 images on any topic for magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals, and all assigned projects.

 

3. Fine Art – Single. 

Individual images resulting from fine art, personal and/or experimental work, whether published or unpublished.

 

4. Fine Art – Series. 

A series of 2 to 15 images resulting from personal and/or experimental work, whether published or unpublished.

 

5. Advertising – Single. 

Individual images resulting from ads or an ad campaign, whether published or unpublished.

 

6. Advertising – Series. 

A series of individual ads or an ad campaign consisting of 2 to 15 images published in magazines, newspapers, and all other media.

 

7. Photo Book. 

A series of 2 to 15 images from any photography book (e-book, self-published, published or unpublished).

 

 

 

Student Categories

 

1. Editorial – Single.

Individual images on any topic for magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals, and all assigned projects.

 

2. Social Documentary – Essay.

A series of 8 to 15 images from a social documentary project, whether published or unpublished.

 

3. Fine Art – Single.

Individual images resulting from personal and/or experimental work, whether published or unpublished.

 

4. Fine Art – Series.

A series of 2 to 15 images resulting from personal and/or experimental work, whether published or unpublished.

 

5. Photo Book.  

A series of 2 to 15 images from any photography book (e-book, self-published, published or unpublished).

 

 

  • What are the New York Photo Awards entry fees?

General Categories – entry fees:

 

  • $30 per individual photograph
  • $65 per series of up to 15 images by an individual (in any category)

 

Student Categories – entry fees:

 

  • $20 per individual photograph
  • $40 per series of up to 15 images by an individual (in any category)

 

 

 

 

  • What is the New York Photo Awards Annual?

The New York Photo Awards Annual is a beautifully produced photo book offering high visibility and recognition in the field of art and photography.

 

The New York Photo Awards Annual is also an opportunity for submitted images by photographers that are not chosen as Winners or Honorable Mentions to receive exposure. The New York Photo Awards Jury will select these images during the judging process of the New York Photo Awards.

 

 

 

  • Is there a publication fee for the New York Photo Awards Annual?

Yes. In order to be considered for inclusion in the New York Photo Awards Annual, photographers submitting images to the New York Photo Awards must pay an additional fee of $5 for each Single Image or each Series submission. 

 

 

 

  • How Many Winners and Honorable Mentions will there be?

12 photographers will be awarded as Winners of the New York Photo Awards. One winning entry will be chosen from each category (i.e. 7 Winners in the General categories, and 5 Winners in the Student categories).

 

In addition to the winning entry, 2 Honorable Mentions will also be nominated from each category. Winning entries as well as honorable mentions will be showcased at the New York Photo Awards ceremony during the New York Photo Festival 2010.

 

 

 

  • What kind/size of files can I submit?

  • Maximum file size: 4MB
  • File Format: JPEG, PNG
  • Images should be saved at 72dpi
  • Color Profile: RGB
  • Images must be no greater than 1200 pixels on their longest dimension

  • Can I send print material, books, or CDs?

No. Only online submissions will be accepted. Please do not send any hard-copy materials, they cannot be returned.

 

 

 

  • Can I submit a URL for consideration?

No. You must upload individual images through the online submission process.

 

 

 

  • What should I do if I’m not sure which category my work fits into?

Choose the category that is most appropriate.

 

 

 

  • How many images can I submit in the Series category?

Up to 15 images that are related in terms of content or usage.

 

 

 

  • Can I enter an image from a Series as a Single image?

Yes.

 

 

  • I’m unable to register or submit my images online. What should I do?

Please check that you do not have a firewall installed that is preventing access. You may also try to submit using a different web browser (such as Firefox or Safari) or a different computer. If you are still experiencing technical problems, you can contact us at awards@nyphotofestival.com. Be sure to include a short description of the problem and the category you are trying to submit to.

 

 

 

  • Will I receive a notice that my submission has been received?

Yes. After you register, submit images, and pay online, you will receive an email confirmation with your registration number and amount paid. This will be your receipt. You can also log on to the site and review/edit your submissions by clicking on the “Edit Image” tab of your account. If the images appear properly in your account, they have been successfully received.

 

 

 

  • Can I pay by check?

No, all submissions must be paid for electronically, via credit card.

 

 

 

  • Will I receive a receipt for my entry fee?

After you pay by credit card, a confirmation showing your submission and the final amount paid will be sent by email and will serve as your receipt of payment.

 

 

 

  • How can I find out the results of the competition?

Winners and Honorable Mentions will be individually notified by email prior to the New York Photo Festival in May 20010.
