Submission Guidelines

Welcome to the New York Photo Awards 2010 – Now accepting submissions!

If this is your first time here, here’s a quick guide of what you’ll need to do next:

Before you upload your images, you will need to register for an account on the New York Photo Awards website.

Purchasing Uploading Rights

Once you have registered and logged in, it’s time to identify the categories you wish to submit in, and begin by purchasing Upload Rights (slots) in those categories.

Please note that categories you have already purchased slots in will appear in blue (indicating it’s a link). If you wish to purchase additional slots in those categories, please click on the link to indicate the number of desired slots.

Uploading your Submission

Single Image Submissions
To ensure that all images look their best and are judged on an equal basis, please prepare your files to the following specifications before uploading them:

  • Maximum file size: 4MB
  • File Format: JPEG, PNG
  • Images should be saved at 72dpi
  • Color Profile: RGB
  • Images must be no greater than 1200 pixels on their longest dimension

Uploading a file that exceeds the maximum file size or is not saved in the correct file format, will result in an error message and the image will not be accepted by the system. If that happens, please resize your image and try again.

Image Series Submissions
To ensure that all images are judged on an equal basis, please prepare your files to the following specifications before uploading them:

  • Maximum file size: 4MB (per image)
  • File Format: JPEG, PNG
  • Images should be saved at 72dpi
  • Color Profile: RGB
  • Images must be no greater than 1200 pixels on their longest dimension
  • An image series submission must consist of as few as 2 to as many as 15 images, submitted as a single entry towards a single category.
  • All images belonging to a single series must be the work of a single artist.
  • When closing a series, any unused slots in that series will be lost. Only close a series when you have successfully uploaded all of your images for that series .
  • if you do not manually close a series, the system will automatically close it for you when you have reached the upper limit of 15 images for that series.

Uploading a file that exceeds the maximum file size or is not saved in the correct file format, will result in an error message and the image will not be accepted by the system. If that happens, please resize your image and try again.

A note on digital alteration:
Images submitted for consideration in the “Editorial – Single”, “Editorial – Series” or “Social Documentary – Essay” categories must not be digitally altered or otherwise manipulated. Any manipulation of the image(s) in each of these categories, beyond minor adjustments such as basic colour correction, subtle lightening/darkening of zones, sharpening, and removal of dust will result in disqualification of the image or series.

Editing your Submission

  • Once an image is successfully submitted in a category, all information – such as title, caption, and artist name – can be edited.
  • Images can be substituted for other images if desired.
  • Images cannot be transfered to a different category.

Please note that failure to comply with the aforementioned requirements may result in the disqualification of your submitted image(s). No refunds can be issued for disqualified submissions, under any circumstances.
