Friday, November 20, 7pm – An Evening with Lauren Greenfield
The Icons of Photography No.4 lecture brings Lauren Greenfield to Austin. Once again to be held in the Blanton Museum of Art Auditorium.
Photographer and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield has garnered critical acclaim documenting modern youth culture, examining pervasive phenomena from eating disorders and the obsession with body image, to the extreme effects of consumerism. Author of the groundbreaking books Fast Forward, Girl Culture, and Thin, Greenfield was named by American Photo as one of the 25 most influential photographers working today. Her work appears regularly in The New York Times Magazine, Time, and Elle, and is in many museum collections including the Getty , the Los Angeles County Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Greenfield directed and produced her first feature-length film, THIN (HBO, 2006), about the treatment of eating disorders. THIN premiered at Sundance, won Best Documentary at the London International Film Festival, and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Direction. Her new film, kids + money (HBO, 2008), was selected for Sundance, and won numerous awards. Lauren Greenfields’s web site.
